At a meeting holdon agreeably to previous notice Dec 3, 1836 at this new meeting house for the purpose of selecting pews, Col. Cha[rle]s Paine was chosen Moderator and J. L. Buck, Secretary.
Voted these rules for forming and governing (an afoscution ) now to be formed, be read and laid on the table which rules were read accordingly --
Chose John Starkweather auctioneer. Voted that any individual may select a pew and say what he will give and any other person may bid, and the highest bidder have the pew.

Northfield May 27, 1822 This day was organized the First Congregational Church of Christ, in this town composed of the following persons. Mr. Josiah B. Strong, Virgil Washburn, Moses R. Dole, Samuel Whitney, Thomas Houghton, Lucy Whitney, Clarissa Strong, Razpal Whitney, Betsey Houghton, by professing there faith in Christ and entering into covenant bonds with God and each other.
They there proceeded to choose Brother Josiah B. Strong, Moderator, Brother Samuel Whitney, clerk and Deacon Virgil Washburn Deacon. Attest: Elijah Lyman & Aurini Nichols Ministers of the Gospel

Diary of the church - June 17, 1822
Tuesday held a church meeting according to app(oirtant) vote to hold open communion with all regular organized Christian Churches. Voted to hold co(munion?) after meeting also voted to have Brother Virgil Washburn procure church furniture consisting of our tankard and two cups at the expense of the church.
May 4, 1826 This day chose Rev. James Hobart of Berlin, Moderator.
March 18, 1828 Met agreeable to appointment and chose Brother Charles C. Clafson scribe.
May 21, 1830 Made choice of Brother John S. Buck, Clerk.

March 6, 1836. This day Mr. Jonah Smalley was admitted to the church by letter from the Church in Brookfield and his wife Mrs. Sarah Smalley by letter from the church in Randolph. On the same day Mr. Sylvanus Horant and Mrs. Lydia Blake was admitted to this church by letters from the church in Hartland, and Mifs Malinda Benson was also received on her profefsion of faith in Christ. At a meeting of the Church April 13, 1836 on the request of Sister Mary Dole, voted that she have a letter of dismissal and recommendation to the Church of Christ in Ogden in the State of New York. Letter made & delivered. Attest: Jno. L. Buck, Clerk
Saturday June 4, 1836. The church met agreeable to notice and adjourned to Monday 6th June. Met persuant to adjournment and - 1st vote to give Rev. Calvin Granger a call to become our pastor with a salary from the church & society of two hundred dollars per annum.
2nd. Chose J. L. Buck committee to make known the determination of the church to Rev. Mr. Granger which was accepted by them.
3rd. Voted that Rev. A. C. Washburn of Royalton be invited to preach the Dedication and Installation sermon.
4th. Voted to invite the churches in Montpelier, Berlin, Barre, Williamstown, Brookfield and Braintree to afsist in the services, and also Rev. C. Wright of Montpelier.
6th. Voted to appoint a committee to see what can be obtained for Rev. M. Kellogg
7th. Voted to adopt new confefsion of faith

At a meeting of the church held on Nov 13, 1826.
1. Voted that Rev. C. Granger be installed on the first day of Dec. and meeting house be dedicated
2nd. Voted to invite Rev. J. K. Co(wen) to preach the Dedication & Installation Sermon. Also to invite the church at Burlington to attend by delegate. At a meeting of the church Jan 1, 1837, Caroline Paine was admitted to the church by profefsing faith in Christ, Daniel Parker, Mrs. Parker, Daniel Parker, Junr and Eliza Parker were admitted by vote of the church without letter, having been members of the church in Roxbury which had become extinct. At a meeting of the church Dec 10, 1836 The following resolutions were pafsed. Resolve, that we view a (well) regulated Sabbath school as a very important means of grow and believe it our duty as member of the church, to use our utmost (undcabous) to sustain one in this place by causing the attendance of our children and procuring the attendance of others as far as practiable.
Resolved, that the members of the church (qulic the) importance of a well regulated Bible Clafs and believe that it ought to be sustained in order for which it is necefsary for all the brothers and sisters to attend the clafs on every Sabbath presented in such a manner as will ( ant) an excuse from the clafs.

An Ecclisicatial council called by letters missive assembled in Northfield at the house of Rev. Calvin Granger on Wednesday the 30th of Nov present.

Rev. J. K. Converse from the 1st Cong Ch in Burlington.
Rev. Buell W. Smith & Dea. C. W. Storrs from 1st ch. In Montpelier & Br. Israel Dewey from Berlin, & Br. Virgil Washburn of W. Randolph.
Council organized by choosing Rev. J. Mather Moderator & Rev. J. K. Converse scribe. Opened by prayer by the Moderator. After reading one of the letter missive Br. Granger presented credentials, showing that he had been duly licensed to preach the Gospel, and regularly ordained as an evangelist, to the full work of the ministry, by the Royalton Association Council now proceeded to an examination of the candidate as to his evidence of personal piety: attainments in Theology, and other qualifications for the pastoral office. Extracts from the church records and other documents were laid before the council, showing that a call, in the usual form, had been given to the Rev. Calvin Granger, by the Church in Northfield, and that he has accepted the same.
Council voted that the examination of the candidate be satisfactory, and that we proceed to the services of installation, tomorrow morning at eleven o'clock. Council afsigned the several parts of service as follows.
Invocation & reading the scriptures, to Br. Smith Introductory prayer - Br. Thatcher Sermon & Dedicatory prayer - Br. Converse Installing prayer & Charge to the Pastor - Br. Tenney Right hand of Fellowship - Br. Smith Address to the People - Br. Thatcher Closing Prayer by Br. Smith Benediction by the Pastor.

Voted to adjourn to meet at the house of Col. Paine tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock
Thursday morning Dec 1st, council met according to adjournment at the house of Col. Paine. After hearing and approving the minutes & spending a short season in deliberation, voted to adjourn after the public services without day.
The council proceeded to the church at the appointed hour & solemnly set apart & installed the Rev. Calvin Granger, as pastor of the Congregational Church in Northfield and also dedicated the house of worship recently erected by Col. Charles Paine & others, to God, the Father, Son & Holy Ghost. Nov 4th, 1864 The church held its monthly church meeting after the preparatory lecture the following business was transacted. W[illia]m L. Hazen was received into the Church by letter from the Church in Norwich, Vt.
It was voted that as there is no record of the election of Bros Samuel C. Denny and W[illia]m Winch to the office of Deacon, the Clerk of the Church be instructed to make such record. Bro. Denney was elected Bro. Winch was elected Dea, July 1848 Dea. Denney assigned the office of Clerk of the church on motion his resignation was accepted and W[illia]m Hazen was elected Clerk.
On motion Dea. Winch and Bro. Lucius Edson were appointed a committee to examine the records of the Church, and record such doings of the Church as they may find have been omitted in the records.

Mrs. Cynthia Robinson being very sick and not expecting to live many days, and wishing before death to make some public profession of her faith in Christ, at her request a few members of the Church went to her home receiving her to the Church and the sacrament of the Lord. Supper was administered by the Pastor Oct 30th. She died Nov 1st. At the regular Church meeting Nov 2nd the Church by vote sanctioned the actions of the few.

And whereas they have declared themselves entirely satisfied with their present belief and life and requested that their names be stricken from our church roll.
