McKINSTRY: Clara E. , 92, of St. Johnsbury, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. She was born in St. Johnsbury, April 8, 1911, the daughter of Henry and Grace (Simpson) McKinstry. After attending Portland Street School, she graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1929. Clara spent 32 years as a clerk for F.W. Woolworth stores, working in St. Johnsbury, Littleton and Barre. She also worked for M.H. Fishman and Centers for many years. She had been a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in St. Johnsbury since 1923 where she was active in the Sunday school program, a member of Rose Fellowship, Friendship Club and the United Methodist Women. Clara loved doing fancy work, including knitting hats for NVRH. She was a member of RSVP. For the past 82 years, Clara had resided in the same house on Harrison Avenue, sharing with her sister Doris McKinstry, who predeceased her on June 11, 1995; and her brother, Howard McKinstry, who survives her in St. Johnsbury. Other survivors include cousins and many friends. Funeral services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, Friday, May 23, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. John Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends are invited to meet the family tonight from 6-7:30 p.m. at Sayles Funeral Home.
