Alice Player died Jan. 14, 2007, in Hickory Creek, Texas, surrounded by her family. Born Aug. 12, 1915, in Passumpsic, she was the youngest child of John and Theresa (Beck) Albiser. She attended Passumpsic schools and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1933. She attended nursing school in Jersey City, N.J., and completed her training at Brightlook Hospital in St. Johnsbury, graduating in 1936. She pursued her nursing career both as a private care nurse and for several local doctors. In later years, she was one of the first nurses at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. On June 22, 1940, she married Donald A. Player. Together they made a home and raised their family on a small farm on Clay Hill in St. Johnsbury. Alice was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Alice is survived by her three sons and their wives, Brian Player and wife Judy (Gravett) of Arlington, Mass., Robert Player and wife Barbara (Wells) of Hickory Creek, Texas, and Lee Player and wife Sandy (Veillieux) of Bergen, N.Y.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Michaud of Presque Isle, Maine, and Shirley Player of Hamden, Conn; a niece, Becky (Pratt) Gibson of Monroe, N.H.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Close friends and neighbors Kay Phelps and Everett Ranney of Clay Hill should be remembered for their kindness. Alice was predeceased by an infant sister; her husband, Donald, in 1995; two brothers, John Albiser, and Fr. Henry Albiser; and a sister, Madeline Pratt. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Friday, May 25, 11 a.m. with the Rev. Pat Forman, celebrant. Interment will follow in the Lyndon Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Alice's name to a charity of one's choice.
