Arnold Langmaid, 94, passed away on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab. Born in North Danville, Vt., on July 5, 1919, to the late Burl and Ethel (Drew) Langmaid, Mr. Langmaid was a lifelong area resident; attending schools in Danville and graduating from the St. Johnsbury Trade School. After serving in the Army during WWII, Arnold was employed at Fairbank Scales while operating a dairy farm and retiring in 1985. Known as the perfect grandfather, a skilled mechanic, a devoted square dancer and horse enthusiast, he also served as a lister and school board director for the Town of Danville. Mr. Langmaid is survived by his wife of 72 years Shirley (Blodgett) Langmaid; four sons and their wives: Dwayne and Diantha Langmaid and children Amy and Allison, Dean and Beverly Langmaid and children Thomas, Christy and Michelle, David and Marie Langmaid and children Sarah and Zachary, and Don and Dianne Langmaid and children Jeni and Jake; along with eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Langmaid is also survived by his brother Hugh Langmaid, sisters Betty Hawkins and Joyce Bennett and many nieces and nephews. Arnold was predeceased by brothers Forrest and Phil Langmaid and sister Jean Hutchins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the North Danville Baptist Church with the Reverend Robert Sargent officiating. Burial will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Danville Rescue Squad, 379 Brainerd St., Danville, VT 05828.
