REED: Carlyle M. , 90, of St. Johnsbury, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. He was born July 2, 1913 in St. Johnsbury, the son of Morton J. and Ethel (Mullen) Reed, and grandson of the late Charles Mullen of Hybernia, New Brunswick, and Isabelle Dodge of Littleton, N.H., Sidney M. Reed and Flora A. Rice of Sheldon. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1931, and attended Bryant-Stratton College in Boston. He married Marion Lumbra. He owned and operated Reed Supply Co. in St. Johnsbury, retiring in 1973. He was a member of North Congregational Church where he served as treasurer for three years, was instrumental in the remodeling project at the church, and served on the business committee for several years, including four years as chairman. He served as trustee and later became chairman of the board at Passumpsic Savings Bank from 1977-1985, was one of four founders of the Little League Baseball; he also coached for a time. He was a secretary of the St. Johnsbury Chamber of Commerce, an on-call firefighter for the town of St. Johnsbury for a number of years, and a member of the St. Johnsbury Rotary Club. Carlyle and Marion spent 29 winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. Survivors include his wife, Marion Reed of St. Johnsbury; a son, Richard Reed and wife Patricia of St. Johnsbury; a daughter, Barbara Reed Truex and husband Tom of Shaftsbury; a brother, Paul Reed and wife Marjorie of St. Johnsbury; numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Elisabeth McDonough, Sharon Alger and husband Jay, and Bradley Reed; step-grandchildren, Samuel Truex, Jacqui Truex-Greenslet; and a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Louise Alger. He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Robert C. Reed; and a sister, Ruth Reed Brown. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 18, at 3 p.m., at the North Congregational Church, with the Rev. Jay Sprout officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Carlyle's name to either St. Johnsbury Band, David Askren, Treasurer, P.O.
