GRADY: Irene E. , 84, a lifelong resident of St. Johnsbury, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. The daughter of Gardner and Carrie (Carroll) Grady, Irene was born Sept. 8, 1920, in St. Johnsbury. Irene was a graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1939, she was a cook at various country inns, and a housekeeper at the Hillwinds Inn in Franconia, St. Johnsbury Academy, and in many private homes. Irene lived over 20 years at the St. Johnsbury House and was involved in many activities there. Irene is survived by a sister-in-law, Dot Grady; several nieces and nephews to include Jane Grady, Catherine Sicard, John L. Grady III, David Grady, William Grady, Richard Grady, Donald Grady, Caroline Kopczynski, Wesley Emerson, William Amidon, Patricia Meaden, Carol Sicard, Barbara Milo, Robert Grady; many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; and her many friends at the St. Johnsbury House and Senior Center. She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, John Grady II, Allen Grady, and Ferdinand Grady; four sisters, Madeline Jackson, Gladys Swasey, Harriett Emerson and Florence Amidon; and a great-nephew, Edward Grady. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 1-1:55 p.m., at the South Congregational Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mr. Lee Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Passumpsic Cemetery, Waterford. Memorial contributions may be made in Irene's name to the St. Johnsbury Meal Site at 1207 Main St., St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.
