MORRISON: Isabelle "Sarge," passed away late Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital at the age of 83. The Morrisons were longtime residents of Summer Street and in recent years made their home at 81 Hill St., St. Johnsbury Center (05819). She was well-known at the Farmer's Market for her jams, jellies and pickles. She was born in St. Johnsbury on May 11, 1921, the daughter of Paul and Eliza (Shastany) Sargent. Sarge graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1939, marrying Emerson A. Morrison after the war on Aug. 31, 1946. At St. Johnsbury Academy, Mrs. Morrison supervised afternoon study halls in Room 204 and assisted the girls physical education director with girls' sports. Before the closing of Mt. St. Joseph Academy, she taught physical education there. She retired from the Academy in 1986 as registrar. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, former counselor of the Methodist Youth Fellowship, and a longtime member of the church choir. She belonged to Caledonia Choral Society and was a member of the St. Johnsbury Players. Sarge enjoyed many years as an assistant Girl Scout leader and trained senior Girl Scouts that went to the national Girl Scout Round-up at Button Bay on Lake Champlain in 1961. She also served as a Cub Scout den mother. A good golfer, Sarge was a member of the St. Johnsbury Country Club and was president of the women's golf association in 1962-63. At the former Maple Lanes, she was past president of the bowling league. She was a past member of the executive board of the Community League, an organization recognizing community service. She held office in the Order of Eastern Star and had been mother adviser of the Rainbow Girls. She also taught tennis and girls softball in the St. Johnsbury Youth Recreational Council program. She is survived by Em, her husband of 58 years; daughter, Frances Boardman; son, David Morrison and his wife Melissa; five grandchildren, Elaine Ducharme and her husband Anthony, Patricia Gilding and her husband Barron, Jonathan Morrison and his wife Erica, Lance Boardman Jr. and his wife Angela, and Derek Morrison; and three great-grandchildren, Leia and Peter Gilding and Landon Boardman. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m., at the Grace United Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. John Marshall, officiating. Burial will have taken place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.
