Louise Roberts Findlay, 97, of Morey Road, Sutton, Vt., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., following complications of surgery. Born on July 16, 1920, in Burlington, Vt., she was the daughter of Richard and Florence (Bowen) Roberts. Louise grew up in St. Johnsbury, Vt., and was a 1938 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy and was proud to attend her 75th class reunion in 2013. On June 12, 1942, she married Glen Findlay in St. Johnsbury and settled on the family farm. After a few years, they moved to an apartment in Lyndonville prior to building a two-story home on Pudding Hill Road where they lived for 23 years. In 1967, they purchased 30 acres in Sutton and built their retirement home. They enjoyed 69 very happy years together until his passing on Nov. 10, 2011. Over the years, she was active in the Lyndonville Methodist Church, the Eastern Star (later a life member and Past Matron), Mother's Club, Homemaker Club, Lyndonville Women's Club, and was chairman of the Lyndon Health Council at the time of the first polio clinics. In retirement, she and Glen enjoyed good health, they began 30 years of bus travelling and camping in their van. Their travels took them to destinations such as Alaska, Quebec, Labrador, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, and Hawaii. One day as she and Glen sat on the porch Glen said, "We've had a good life and good children and good friends, " and she agreed. After Glen's passing, she became interested in genealogy and traced her family roots back past the Revolutionary War. She even completed the certification process to join the DAR. She also completed the Autobiography of her Legacy with the kind help of Chip Devenger and Kelly Hooker to whom she is ever grateful for helping her with these treasured memories. In closing, she noted in her memoir that "If I hadn't met and married Glen, I don't think I would ever have had this happy life. I have always enjoyed my family, but my happiness left when he passed." She leaves her three children: John Findlay of Newark, Vt., Elaine Dilley and husband Alfred of Lyndon Center, Vt., and Ann Findlay Lepine and Robert Lepine Jr., of Lyndonville, Vt.; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and Pastor Christina Findlay; and close friend and caregiver Cecile Berry of Lyndonville. A private family service was held at the family lot at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in St. Johnsbury, Vt.
