Albert J. Salt of West Burke died on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at the age of 88. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on Feb. 23, 1925, the son of Rupert J. and Grace (Rollins) Salt. He grew up in the family home on Route 5 in Waterford, attended Passumpsic Grammar School, and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1943. During WWII he served with the USN Seabees in the Pacific Theatre. After the war he was employed by the New England Power Company, first at Comerford Station in East Barnet, and was later transferred to system operator's offices in Salem and North Andover, Mass. He retired in 1989 after more than 42 years of service. He married Susan Miller of Beverly, Mass., in 1971. Together they enjoyed church, reading, the arts, traveling, antiquing, and time spent with relatives and friends. At retirement they bought their last home in West Burke, spending winters at their condo in Naples, Fla. She predeceased him in 2002. He is survived by his sister and her husband, Joyce and Ernest Racenet of Danville, brother-in-law Otis Carleton of Sutton; nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held this Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Sayles Funeral Home with the Rev. William Bartholomew and the Rev. Jay Sprout officiating. The family will be at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m. to receive friends and condolences.
