Hilda Eva "Dodo" Grenier, of St. Johnsbury, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at the age of 87. She was born Aug. 6, 1920, in Newport, one of 11 children. Her father Gabriel Handy was born in Wada, Lebanon; her mother Anna Goleb in Mt. Lebanon, Syria. On April 13, 1950, she married Roland "Giz" Grenier who predeceased her on April 7, 2005. She graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy. Hilda was known for her warmth, graciousness, and generosity. Those who entered the Grenier home left with a wonderful meal, feeling warmed and welcomed. Her home was comfortable where words spoken were always kind. Over the years, Hilda worked at Western Union, St. Johnsbury Trucking, Goldberg's, Spanish Villa Restaurant, Parker's Drug Store, and the Koffee Kup Bakery. She was a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Hilda is survived by one brother: Anthony "Tony" Handy and his wife Dianne of St. Johnsbury; Hilda's five children: Roland "Guy" Grenier Jr. and Charlotte Bedor of Waterford (2153 Hale Rd. 05819), David Gabriel Grenier and wife Sonia of San Diego, Calif., (7543 Raven Ridge Pt. 92126), Dennis Paul Grenier and wife Joan of San Diego, Calif., (7065 Lipmann St. 92122), Mark Anthony Grenier and wife Sandy of St. Johnsbury (93 Mt. Vernon St. 05819), Rosemary Lizzari and husband Richard of Underhill, (18 Raven Hill Rd. 05489); a former daughter-in-law who remained very close, Sharon Grenier and Randy Drew of Lyndonville; 13 grandchildren: Joshua and Jarrod; Erika and Christy; Nicholas, Adam and Troy; Dr. Allison and Jayme; Hilari, David, Joe and Aimee; four great-grandchildren Hannah and Austin, Jacobi and Emma Grace; sisters-in law Pauline Handy of Shelburne, Marion Handy of Texas, Giz's sister Ruthie Smith of St. Johnsbury; Giz's brother Robert Grenier and wife Joyce of St. Johnsbury; several nieces and nephews. Jerry and Sarah Williams of St. Johnsbury were like family to Dodo. She was predeceased by siblings Nellie Azur, Richard, Rose Handy, two Philip Handys, Mary Handy, Samuel Handy, Netcy Handy, and Solomon Handy. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John Evangelist Church on Saturday, May 24, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
