Doris Lillian Winchester, of Stetson Terrace in St. Johnsbury Center, passed away with her family at her side on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at the age of 81. She was born on Aug. 7, 1930, in St. Johnsbury and grew up on Maple Street, one of 12 children born to Isaac and Adeline (Garand) Duperron. She married Donald Winchester on May 30, 1953. They suffered the loss of an infant daughter Nancy. There was nothing more wonderful for Doris than having a house full of family; she was always knitting and crocheting something for someone. She and Donald were fortunate to have traveled quite a bit and enjoyed camping. She was parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church. The Winchesters raised their family at "The Circle" in East Barnet when Donald worked at Comerford Dam. In the late 1970s she once again lived on Maple Street when they returned to St. Johnsbury to live on the corner of Maple and Pearl streets, later moving to Stetson Terrace in St. Johnsbury Center in 1982. Doris enjoyed playing bingo especially at the Fr. Lively Center on Saturday nights. She is survived by her husband Donald; three children: Sandy Blodgett and husband Les of St. Johnsbury, Debbie Conover and husband Jon of Charlton, Mass., Jeff Winchester and wife Kim of Monkton; her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Jacob Blodgett; Sarah Blodgett Hodge and husband Michael and their four children Chloe, Isaac, Nicholas, and Cathryn; Joshua Conover; Brice Winchester and Brynn Winchester; two sisters: Rita Blankenhorn and Ray Hall of Orlando, Fla., Lorraine Charron and husband Richard of Lyndonville; Don's sister Joanne Wheeler of Wells River; cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five sisters: Marion Racine, Pamela Scott, Alice Cormier, Arlene Gallant, and Dot Grady, as well as four brothers: Ted Paro, "Barb" Paro, Larry Duperron, and Leo Duperron. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Johnsbury this Thursday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the Desrochers & Sayles Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions could be directed to either: The Fr. Joseph A. Lively Center, 49 Winter St., St. Johnsbury, VT 05819; or to CALEX Ambulance, P.O. Box 570, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.
