Joanne Root Hesseltine of Tempe, Ariz., formerly of St. Johnsbury,
passed away on Aug. 28, 2009, at the Desert Banner Hospital with
her loving family by her side. She was born on July 23, 1941, the
daughter of the late Leonard and Olive Root Sr. She was an alumna of
St. Johnsbury Academy Class of 1959. Joanne and her husband,
Arthur, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 3.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Arthur, and her three children,
Gary Hesseltine (Kim), Karen Byrne (Gary), Vicki Johnson (Steve);
nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leonard
Root Jr. of Danville, Robert Root (Joyce) of Waterford and Glenn Root
of East Windsor, Conn.; three sisters, Lorraine Dodge (Walter) of
Waterford, Betty O'Rourke (Alfred) of Marshfield and Gloria Randall
(Neil) of Bradford; several nieces and nephews. Her sisters Mary
Pitkat, Barbara Randall and her husband George and sisters-in-law
Jean Root and Marion Root predeceased her. Joanne was active with
Relay For Life through The American Cancer Society. In lieu of
flowers, a memorial donation in her name may be made to The
American Cancer Society, Attn: Relay For Life Tempe, 4550 E. Bell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85032.
