Walter J. Neil , 74, of 406 Mt. Pisgah Road in St. Johnsbury, died
Sunday, April 6, 2008, at his home. Walter was born in St. Johnsbury
on Nov. 15, 1933, the son of Walter J. Neil Sr. and Florence
(Chamberlin) Neil. He graduated from the St. Johnsbury Trade School
in 1951 and the Auto Mechanic Institute in body mechanics in 1953.
Walter married Sandra (Blandin) Neil on Feb. 16, 1963. They had two
children, Dennis and Deborah. They made their home in the Barnet
and St. Johnsbury areas. Walter worked 20 years as autobody
foreman for the local Ford dealership in St. Johnsbury and 16 years as
a machinist for the former Northeast Tool in Lyndonville until he
retired. Walter is survived by his two children: his son Dennis J. Neil,
and his daughter Deborah L. Neil; his mother Florence Fleming; his
brothers: James Neil, Cornish, N.H., Bernard Neil, Bellows Falls, Vt.,
Robert Fleming, Lyndonville, Vt., Bryant Fleming, Waterford, Vt.; his
sister Muriel Clark, Barre, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews. Walter
was predeceased by his wife, Sandra (2000); his stepfather Gordon
Fleming (1989); and his brother David Neil (1988). Memorial
services will be held at Sayles Funeral Home on Friday, April 11, at 2
p.m. with the Rev. Ann Hockridge officiating. There will be no visiting hours.
