Simone LaChance, 72, beloved wife, mother, Mémère, sister and aunt, went home to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., to Armand and Pauline Poliquin on March 29, 1942, she attended Mt. St. Joseph Academy and then married Richard LaChance on May 19, 1962. The family moved to Cocoa, Fla., in 1982 where she resided until her death. A gentle and loving soul with a wonderful sense of humor, anyone who knew Simone will tell you she was the nicest person they've ever met. As the saying goes, she never met a stranger; strangers were just friends she hadn't met yet. The embodiment of compassion, selflessness and pure love, she was always volunteering or taking care of someone or something in need until her own failing health prohibited her from doing so. Although being a nurse was a dream that went unrealized, her bedside manner to those she aided was indicative of her many gifts. A lover of all animals, especially cats, she could often be found feeding the local strays and putting out bedding for them on her front porch. She delighted in wildlife, frequently watching nature and animal shows to learn about God's great menagerie, but especially enjoyed the bird watching from her back patio, cardinals being her favorite. Her immense love of animals was passed to her children and grandchildren. Simone was always the first one ready to go on an adventure. It was a standing joke that she'd always be the first one in the car waiting for the rest of the group. She enjoyed many cruises over the years with her family and friends and had traveled throughout much of the US and parts of Canada. Simone was the heart of her family. Words cannot express how deeply she will be missed by them. They rejoice, however, in knowing that she is without suffering and has been reunited with the loved ones who have passed before her, certain that they too will be joined again someday. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Richard; her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Deborah of Portersville, Pa.; son, Paul of Rockledge, Fla.; and daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Gary Holtgard of Boise, Idaho; three grandsons, Luc, Kyle and Gage; a sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Gerry Prevost of Portland, Maine, and a large extended family, countless friends and two cats. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 18, at 2 p.m. at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 1945 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, Fla. Following the service, a celebration of Simone's life will be held at Moose Lodge, 3150 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, Fla. In August, a second memorial service will be held at St. John's Catholic Church in St. Johnsbury, Vt. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the United Humanitarians (a low-cost vet clinic), 1431 Peachtree Street, Cocoa, FL 32922, or the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75231
