Stephen Ralph Burgess, 68, of Cove Road in West Danville, Vt, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center following a sudden illness. Steve was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt. on May 2, 1950, to Ralph and Catherine (Thomas) Burgess. He attended St. Johnsbury Trade School graduating with the Class of 1968. On August 3, 1974, Steve married Nancy Ann Amidon. They raised their children and shared their home and their lives for 44 years. Steve worked as a car salesman in his own business. Racing at Riverside Speedway and ACT was one of Steve's pastimes. He raced from 1972-1994. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was always eager to get the pontoon boat in for a boat ride. He loved spending time with family and dearly loved his dog, Annie, and cat, Corrina. Family meant everything to him. Steve helped everybody, from making sure a person had a reliable car to foregoing charges when someone was in need. He worked hard each and every day. Steve taught so many people so many life lessons and was probably unaware of how many people's lives he touched. Remember, "It's easier to stay out than get out." Steve is survived by his wife: Nancy A. Burgess of West Danville; a son: Corey Burgess of Lyndonville; two daughters: Stephanie Burgess and Holly Ely and husband, Jeremy, all of Lyndonville; two brothers: Fred Kenney of Waterford and Floyd Kenney of Littleton, NH; two sisters: Mary Letourneau and Helen Bedor of St. Johnsbury; six grandchildren: Kinley, Katelyn, Lucas, Natalie, Logan, and Kathryn; long time friends: Alan and Deb Munkittrick of Peacham and Beth and Robert Bigelow of Lyndonville and many others; and cousins, nieces, and nephews: Larry, Mark, Duane, Mike, and Todd Daigle, Vicki Hale, Barbara Arquette, Cindy, Gary, Phillip, and Kevin Kenney, Rhonda Lopes, Brenda and Barbie Kenney, Karen and Katrina Kenney, Pamela Fallon, Patricia Henderson, Tina Drake, Wayne Latourneau, Paul and John Bedor, and Melissa Smart. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Sayles Funeral Home on 525 Summer Street in St. Johnsbury, VT. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 8, 2018, 6PM, at the Tempson Barn, 695 Town Farm Dr, East Burke, VT. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to donate to Steve's final expenses can send donations to Nancy at P.O. Box 245, Danville, VT 05828.[Unless anyone wants to donate a suitcase full of cash, that works too! ;)]
