Elwin J. Austin, age 96, a longtime Lyndonville resident, passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. Born Jan. 31, 1909 in Stanstead, Quebec, Canada, he is the son of the late John and Grace (Bean) Austin. Elwin is a 1929 graduate of Lyndon Institute. He eloped and married Doris M. Lavely on May 5, 1930 in Barnet. He was self-employed as a truck driver for many years; he was also employed at Birchard Chevrolet in the parts department. He was an avid fisherman as this was his passion. He also enjoyed trapping, sports and repairing things. Elwin is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Doris, of Lyndonville; a daughter, Phyllis Hall, of Sebring, Fla.; two grandsons, Jeffrey Hall and Kevin Hall, both of Atlanta, Ga. There are no public calling hours and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest in the Lyndon Center Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Elwin's name to the East Burke Congregational Church, P.O. Box 243, East Burke, VT 05832. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Pearsons Funeral Home, located at 70 Church St., Lyndonville
