Frieda Lucille Powell passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14 in Matthews, North Carolina, at the age of 91. She was born Aug. 17, 1923 in Sheffield, Vermont the second daughter of Delmer and Dora Adell (Davis) Boardman. Her early life was spent in Lyndonville and she graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1941. On Dec. 17, 1943, she married Carlos G. Powell and they had two children Alice A. (Powell) Peck and Charles W. Powell. She and Carlos were both employed for 27 years by the Vermont Department of Forest and Parks as rangers serving at Darling State Park in East Burke, Smugglers's Notch State Park in Stowe and Lake Bomoseen State park in West Castleton. They retired in 1982 and spent summers in East Burke and winters in Bushnell, Florida. She was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed making hand-made quilts for her children and great-grandchildren. Frieda was survived by her daughter Alice and her husband Gregory Peck of Matthews, North Carolina and by her son Charles of Portland Maine, her granddaughter Samantha Lamb and husband Aubrey of Madison, Virginia, and her grandson Sean Peck and his wife Holly who live in Indian Trail, North Carolina. She was the proud Great Gram to Tyler Parker in Fromberg, Montana, Amanda Parker from Summerduck, Virginia, Hayley, Kiersten, Madysen and Gavin Peck in Indian Trail, North Carolina and Victoria Lamb of Madison, Virginia. In addition nieces Shelia Charron, Brenda Voyer, Julie Boardman and Frieda's son-in-laws sister Kimberley (Peck) Krause. She was predeceased by her husband Carlos, two brothers Gerald Boardman and his wife Helen and Gordon Boardman and his wife Shirley and a sister Phyllis Powers and her husband Charles as well as two nieces and two nephews Bonnie Boardman Griffin, Lance Boardman, James Boardman and Charlene Powers Therriault. There will be a service of remembrance On Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Burke Mountain Clubhouse in East Burke, Vermont and internment in the East Burke Cemetery. Donations in Frieda's memory can be made to the Burke Mountain Club or the charity of your choice.
