Phyllis Bennett passed peacefully at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, VT, Sunday, December 2, 2018, singing her favorite hymns as she went home to the Lord and her beloved husband Reginald and daughter Diane. She was surrounded by her family, who will miss her very much. Phyllis was born on October 31, 1924, in Greensboro, VT, to McKinley & Elizabeth Garfield. She later moved to Lyndonville and attended Lyndon Institute. She recently attended her 75th class reunion. She married Reginald Bennett and they spent many happy years living in their Pinehurst home raising their four daughters; Nadine McCue (David), Marcia Bennett, Diane Lynch, Joyce Valley (Mark). Her final years were happily spent living at the Marigold Apartments, going to the Bagel Depot, and Darling Inn meal site with her many friends (Agnes Sears especially). Phyllis was a very active member of the community, (once selected citizen of the year for her volunteering and hospice care) also the Lyndonville United Methodist Church (a member since 4/21/40 and held almost every position on every committee there is). She loved her church family (they loved her as well and she will be missed. Agnes and Marcia Bennett will take possession of her back row seat!) She is predeceased by her parents, husband, Reg, daughter, Diane, sister, Dorothy Ellsworth and brother, Howard Garfield. She has seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and six nieces and nephews. Phyllis was small in stature, but strong in spirit and oh so sharp witted! In her younger years she was physically active skiing & golfing. She & Reg were active members of the Lyndon Outing Club in its earlier years. She kept on gardening well into her 90’s. Always pleased with producing her own veggies (the perfect tomato was cherished.) Funeral services will be at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church at 100 Church Street, Lyndonville, VT on Friday, December 7th at 11:00am. Visiting hours will be at the Guibord-Pearsons Funeral Home on the corner of Center and Main Streets on Thursday, December 6th at 5:00-7:00pm Donations can be made in Phyllis’ memory to the Lyndonville United Methodist Church, PO Box 543, Lyndonville, VT 05851.
