Wendell "Jack" Philip Cassady, age 91, of Mt. Hunger Road died peacefully at the Pines on January 4, 2017. "Jack" was born in Walden, VT, on October 18, 1925, son of David and Marjorie (Gray) Cassady. He was raised and educated in Walden, Waterford and Lyndonville, VT, graduating from Lyndon Institute in 1943. On May 15, 1949, he married Dorothy Poole. They spent 62 years together until her death in 2011. Wendell worked as a mechanic in his own shop, Cassady's. During WWII, he was in the Marines stationed in the Philippines and China. For over 50 years, Jack was with the Lyndonville Fire Department serving as Chief for 28 years. Wendell enjoyed working in the garden and with wood; he was a putterer. He loved his grandchildren, referring to them as the 'apples of his eye'. He was a member of the Lyndonville VFW and the Lyndonville United Methodist Church. He is survived by 4 daughters: Linda Sylvester and husband Rob of Sutton; Bonnie Cassady and partner Ken Miles of Sheffield; Brenda McFayden and husband Earl of Holly Hills, FL; and Mary Duprey and husband Roland of Lyndonville; a brother: Richard Cassady and wife Claire of Lyndonville; 2 sisters: Rita Miller of Lyndonville; and Ruth Wheeler of Lyndon Center; 15 grandchildren: Rob, Suzette, Thomas, Christina, Paul, Matthew, Jennifer, Cathy, Alyssa, Leland, Mike, Keisha, Sara, Douglas, and Mercedes; 26 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and 3 step-great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and cousins He was predeceased by his wife: Dorothy M. Cassady; his siblings: Lawrence Cassady, David Wayne Cassady, Eleanor Peck, and Elwin Cassady; 3 brothers-in-law: Jessie Miller, Richard Wheeler and Reginald Peck. Services will be Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at 11AM at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church with Rev. James Proctor officiating. Friends may call on the family Monday, January 9, 2017, 6-8PM at Guibord Funeral Home in Lyndonville. Burial will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.
