Richard E. Burrington, 83, of 7 Elm Court, Hatfield, Mass., passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Born in Burke, Vt., on Nov. 15, 1928, Dick was the son of the late Elmer and Gladys (Hilliard) Burrington. He was educated in Burke schools. Dick was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He later served ion the Vermont National Guard and the Massachusetts National Guard, retiring with the rank of Major. Dick moved from Vermont to Hatfield in 1964. He was the Sales Manger for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Northampton for many years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Northampton Elks lodge # 997, the America Legion in Hatfield and the VFW in Florence. Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. Dick's wife, Marie (Palmer) Burrington, passed away in September 2011. He is survived by his two sons Richard L. Burrington and his wife Frances of Westfield and Gary D. Burrington of Lyndon, Vt.; his two granddaughters Sara and Bailey Burrington; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Norman Burrington and his sister Marjorie Sanderson. Dick's funeral will be Wednesday morning 9 a.m. from the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Road, Northampton, Mass., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Grace Church, School Street, Hatfield at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be Thursday at the Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke, Vt., at 1 p.m. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Donations in Dick's memory may be made to the American Heart Assoc., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01070.
