Bruce E. Norcross, 81, of Wheelock, died peacefully Sunday morning, Feb. 19, 2012 at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury with his family by his side. He was born in Lyndon Center on Oct. 1, 1930 the son of Clarence and Verna (McDowell) Norcross. Bruce graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1948. On June 10, 1950 he married Shila Hitchcock. For more than 45 years Bruce worked at Vermont Tap & Die Co. in Lyndonville as a machinist and later in the shipping department. Following retirement he worked for the State of Vermont at the district 7 Rest Areas in Waterford and Lyndon where he enjoyed meeting and helping people. Bruce's favorite pastimes included hunting rabbit and deer, fishing, working on his home, tending his lawn and gardens and dancing almost every Saturday night with Shila. Survivors include his two sons, both of Wheelock, Rodney Norcross and his wife Bonnie and Gary Norcross and his wife Sherry; four grandchildren, Tracy Winot, Bruce Norcross and wife Darcy, Scott Norcross, and Dan Norcross and fiancé Lyn Rommel; five great grandchild, Mitchell, Danika, Trevor, Bret and Zeb; two sisters, Ethel Crane of Washington, N.H. and Constance Goodwin of Nevada; a brother in-law, Arnold Littel of St. Johnsbury; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 47 years, Shila Norcross on July 4, 1997; four sisters, Pauline and husband Donald Rainy, Beverly Moffett, Reba Littel and Norma Delisle and husband Lionel; his brother, Robert Norcross and his wife Marilyn. Funeral services will be held Wednesday evening, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Guibord Funeral Home with the Reverends Matthew Bowles and Barbara Dwyer officiating. Friends may call on the family two hours prior to the start of the service; beginning at 5 p.m. Burial will be in Lyndon Center Cemetery on Friday May 4, at 2 p.m. Donations made in his memory may be directed to either the Lyndonville United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 543, Lyndonville, VT 05851 or to the Riverside Life Enrichment Center, 2104 East Burke Road (RTE 114), Lyndonville, VT 05851.
