James R. Lowell BALLSTON SPA - James R. Lowell, 82, of Dublin Drive, died Sunday morning, Sept. 28th at Wesley Health Care, Saratoga Springs, following a brief illness. Born in Lyndonville, Vermont, August 11, 1932, son of the late George and Emily Lowell, a 1951 graduate of Lyndonville Institute. After high school, Jim enlisted in the US Navy and served during the Korean War. A newspaper printer most of his adult life, Jim retired from Schenectady's Daily Gazette in 1994, after 25 years, and had previously worked for Glens Fall Post Star and the Caledonian-Record in St. Johnsville, Vt. A dedicated sports fan, Jim was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, and followed baseball and football and enjoyed bowling over the years. His wife of 55 years, Althea Leonard Lowell died Oct. 31st of last year and was also predeceased by a brother and three sisters. Survivors include three children: Pamela (Charles, Jr.) Winston of Foley, Al., Russell (Peggy) Lowell of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Patricia Douglas of Stillwater. Also 3 grandchildren, Justin Smith, Ashley Lee and Matthew Douglas. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 1st at 11 AM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial with military honors at St. Paul's Cemetery. Calling hour at the Funeral Home on Wednesday morning from 10-11 AM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Northeastern Chapter American Lung Assoc., 8 Mountain View, Albany, NY 12204.
