Lawrence "Pete" Williamson passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends Monday, Feb. 13, 2017. He was born in Lyndon, Sept. 3, 1946, son of Nina and Guy Williamson. He attended Lyndon Institute and served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Norfolk, Va., where he achieved the rank of helmsman, responsible for steering ships into ports around the world. Pete joked that he lived on a ship for four years and couldn't swim a stroke. Pete married Juanita Peck in 1963 and they had two beautiful daughters that Pete was extremely proud of. What a blessing Christina and Tara were able to care for him during his final days, giving him much love and encouragement. Pete began his career at Tap and Die but excelled in the lumber business, working at Wheeler's Building Materials, Wayne's Building Materials, and Lyndonville Hardware. He loved working, retirement was not an option. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and exploring the outdoors in his Jeep or on the four-wheeler with family and friends but he was well known for his competitive weight lifting achievements and exercise ethic. Pete won numerous awards at Vermont and New England power lifting championships. He still holds the record in a men's master class. Pete will be sadly missed by his loving companion, Judy Hughes; daughters, Christina Lacroix and husband Rocky, and Tara Williamson and companion Nate; four grandsons, Erich, Zacary, Travis and Sawyer; several sisters, and brother, Charles; many nieces, nephews, and innumerable friends. During Pete's recent illness, his friends' visits with stories were his best medicine. The family is deeply indebted to all of you for making him laugh and smile. Please join us for more stories at Pearsons Funeral Home, 70 Church St. in Lyndonville on Sunday, Feb. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. And help us celebrate his life Monday, Feb. 20, at 11 am., at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church followed by a light luncheon at the Tom Breslin Center on Main St. in Lyndonville. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the caring people of Caledonia Home Health Care and Hospice.
