GRIFFIN, Wendy E. (Smith) Of Hingham, MA, formerly of Lyndonville, VT, passed away on January 28, 2017 after a short period of declining health. Wendy graduated from Lyndon Institute class of 1978 and the University of New Hampshire in Durham. Wendy was a gifted student and amazing athlete. In her junior year, she was the Vermont State Champion for combined downhill and cross country skiing and was on the Junior Olympic Ski Team where she competed all across the country as far away as Alaska. Wendy was a recipient of 13 varsity letters excelling in skiing, track and field. She also excelled in academics being a yearly member of the National Honor Society. At UNH, she continued with her passion for skiing and competed on their ski team. Wendy was also a sister of AXO sorority. Wendy has many life-long friends from both Lyndon and UNH. Wendy was a devoted mother to her children and she enjoyed watching them in their sporting events. She was a devoted and skillful advocate for her autistic son, Daniel. Wendy enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family at Ho-Hum at Shadow Lake in Glover, VT and family ski trips to Burke Mountain. Wendy is survived by her former husband, Christopher Griffin; daughter, Kelly Griffin; sons, Daniel and Sean Griffin, all of Hingham, MA; mother, Karlene (Boardman) Smith of Glover, VT and FL; brothers, Clarence "Smitty" Smith and wife Brenda of Wheelock, VT and Jeffrey Smith and wife Shelly of Sutton, VT; sister, Sherri Pedroncelli and husband Bert of Bellflower, CA; sister-in-law, Lori Smith of Lyndonville and many nieces, nephews and friends. Wendy was predeceased by her father, Clarence James Smith and brother, Rick Jay Smith. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Wendy on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 during visiting hours from 4-8 pm in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 160 South Main St. (across from St. Anthony Church), COHASSET. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 10 am in St. Paul Church, 147 North Street, Hingham, MA 02043. Interment Private. Calling hours Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Guibord Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, LYNDONVILLE, VT 05851 from 6-8PM. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Boston Higashi School, 800 North Main St., Randolph, MA 02368.
