DOVER - Krista G Hassler-Schoonover, 32, of Dover, passed away peacefully and beautifully in her sleep on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, holding her husband's hand, with her mom nearby. She kicked cancer's ass for two years, remaining positive and vibrant the entire time. She showed us all what it means to persevere, to accept, and to love. Krista's incredible presence began in Brookhaven, N.Y., on July 19, 1982. To sum up her magnanimous life in any amount of words is impossible. She was full of so much love, light and talent that she made an impact on everyone she met. She brought a whole new meaning to the word "artist". Every medium she used turned into something beautiful. She taught many people how to see ordinary things from a new perspective, and was able to capture things with her photography that would have otherwise gone unseen. When not creating, Krista enjoyed spending time in nature with the ones she loved. Taking trusty Verboaten on river trips or discovering extraordinary spots tucked away on Bellamy Reservoir, enjoying quality scotch by the warmth of a campfire, spending hours mining for mica, just to list a few. It doesn't even scratch the surface. She had way too much awesome for this world. As hard as it will be to live without Krista, her family will honor this incredible girl for the rest of their days. Her husband, Nathan Hassler-Schoonover, was truly the co-star of the greatest love story anyone has ever witnessed. She was so indescribably loved by her family: her parents, Jan Tate, Robert Benton, Kathy Schoonover-Upton, Alan Upton. Her siblings and their spouses, Oden, Oney, Chloe, Steve, Heather, Brandon, Gina, Andy, Alicia, Dominique, Felix, Tiana. Her nieces Rio and Iris, and her nephew Wolfegang. The whole list of family and friends would fill more than this entire newspaper. We packed many lifetimes worth of love in the short time we had with her. Please direct any generous intentions to her GoFundMe account (Round 2: Krista kickin cancer booty) to help with expenses or to www.amystreat.org to help others during their fight against cancer. We will be having a celebration of life party on her birthday, more info to follow on Krista's memorialized Facebook page, because memorial services suck.
