Janet Charron LaClair of Lyndonville passed away Friday, April 13, 2007, at home at the age of 57. She was born in St. Johnsbury on April 29, 1949, the daughter of Roland "Pete" and Katherine (Keneson) Charron. She is survived by her husband, Adam LaClair (P.O. Box 42, Lyndonville, VT 05851); son Michael Nichols II and wife Michelle of Lyndonville; daughter Alicia Masure of Sutton; three grandchildren, Kayla and Rebecca Gray of Sutton, and Bailey Nichols of Lyndonville; brother Paul J. Charron and wife Evelyn of Lyndonville; and two nieces, four aunts and her cousins. She graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1967 and subsequently attended the Boston College of Cosmetology, where she graduated at the head of her class. She owned and operated the "Head Shed" in Lyndonville for several years, and spent many more years of hairdressing out of her home. Jan was a person who loved to learn, and developed skills in a variety of fields, including cake decorating, photography, videography, culinary arts, and much more. Jan spent most of her life in the Lyndonville area, and excelled as entrepreneur, employee, and homemaker alike. She worked as the head bartender and assistant manager at the Tom Breslin Community Center for about 14 years. She later worked for two years at the Lyndonville VFW Post 10038 as the assistant manager, after which she was the club manager at the VFW for an additional eight years. She was also directly involved as co-owner of the LaClair Academy of Mixed Martial Arts in Lyndonville since 1994. Jan lived her life with openness and honesty, and more than anything, liked to help people and felt she made a difference in people's lives. She was well known as someone that young people could turn to, which extended to assisting her husband, Adam, in reforming troubled youngsters through their martial arts academy. She touched many lives in a very beneficial way, and many have expressed their sincere gratitude and appreciation for the caring and nurturing nature she demonstrated, often referring to her as their "second mother." She maintained strong family ties throughout her life, and was an exceptionally caring mother, grandmother, and devoted wife. She also greatly enjoyed "smelling the roses" as she would put it, whether it be watching the wildlife, a beautiful sunset or gardening her flowers. She was also very fond of travel. Friends and family will gather at the Guibord Funeral Home this Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Visiting hours will conclude with a prayer service lead by the Rev. Jeanette McKnight and the Rev. Richard O'Donnell beginning at 7:40 p.m. Memorial contributions, made out to the "Janet Charron LaClair Memorial Fund," may be directed to Community National Bank, 857 Memorial Drive, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819; or to Caledonia Home Health (marked for "Hospice"), P.O.
