Eva Conant Manocchia, age 35, of Ithaca, New York, died at home on Sept. 29, 2016 after a five year battle with melanoma. Eva was born in Lancaster, New Hampshire on Aug. 25, 1981, the daughter of Shawn and Judith (Whitney) Conant of Maidstone, Vermont. She attended schools in Lancaster, N.H. and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Vermont in 2000. Eva attended Alfred University her freshman year, then transferred to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where she earned both her bachelor's degree in animal science and doctorate in veterinary medicine. After graduating in 2010, Eva enjoyed a one-year residency at Atlantic University on Prince Edward Island, where she gained new friends and experiences. During her time at Cornell, she met her devoted husband, Adriano (Age) Manocchia, son of Adriano and Teresa Manocchia of Cambridge, New York. They were married June 11, 2011, in Ithaca. Eva taught in the animal science department at Cornell and was the equine expert for Cornell's NY Cooperative Extension (4-H). Horses were Eva's passion and influence from a young age. The Colts and Fillies 4-H club she was a member of allowed her to learn, lead, and excel, as she gained honors and prestige in her local, state, and regional equestrian activities, showing twice at Eastern States in Springfield, Mass., and representing NH at the national Hippology Quiz Bowl in Louisville, Ky. She continued to participate in equestrian events during her undergraduate years at Cornell as a member of the university equestrian team. Her leadership in 4-H allowed her to encourage and mentor younger 4-H members, which was exactly the role and activity that she most loved about her later professional position at the university. Eva shared her husband's enjoyment of Cornell's hockey games with good friends, but her second passion after horses was her gardening. She loved the results of her continuing efforts to thwart the neighborhood deer population, always improving her flower beds with beautiful but deer-resistant varieties. Family members include her beloved husband Age and the Manocchia family; her parents; two brothers: Abram and his wife Carolyn, of San Diego, Calif., and Joel, his wife Joanna, and their young son Roger, of Monkton, Vermont; two sisters: Carolyn of Houston, Texas; and Ariel and her husband Tertius Steyn, of Hong Kong, China; maternal grandparents Franklin and Blenda Whitney of Maidstone, Vt; and a large extended family, all of whom loved her dearly. Visiting hours were held at Bangs Funeral Home in Ithaca, NY on Monday, Oct. 3. A memorial and celebration of Eva's life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Randolph, N.H. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes, which provided much valuable assistance and comfort to Eva throughout her battle.
