Charles E. Gibson, Jr. of Terrace Street in Montpelier passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 at the Barre Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Gibson grew up in South Ryegate and attended St Johnsbury Academy before attending the University of Michigan for undergraduate and law school. Mr. Gibson was an active lawyer in the state of Vermont for many years, serving as Attorney General. He was proud of his Scottish heritage–he enjoyed Scottish Country Dancing, helped co-found the Catamount Pipe Band, and was active in the St. Andrew’s Society of Vermont. He was also an elder of First Presbyterian Church in Barre for many years, served as Moderator of the Presbytery of Northern New England, and on the Permanent Judicial Committee of the Synod of the Northeast. He was active in the Rotary Club for over five decades. He is survived by his wife JoAnn Gibson of Montpelier; his stepchildren Stephen Folta of Claremont, Calif.; Sara Folta and her husband Vincent Maganzini of Medford, Mass.; and Andrew Folta of San Francisco, Calif. He is also survived by granddaughter Emma Maganzini and nieces Mary Truax and Lucia Burke and nephew William Gibson. He was predeceased by his nephew David Gibson and his brother Stewart Gibson. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 19 Seminary St., Barre. There are no calling hours.
