Peacham, VT: Dorothy Weeks Hovey, age 86, of Green Bay Loop in Peacham, VT, passed away at Valley Terrace in White River Jct. on Thursday, December 7, 2017. Dorothy was born on January 19, 1931 in St. Johnsbury, VT, to Henry Raymond and Lurlene Ada (Harriman) Weeks. She was educated in St. Johnsbury graduating from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1949 and then attended the Rhode Island School of Design. On October 6, 1951, Dorothy married Richard Dean Hovey. Together they immediately moved to Bakersfield, California where both children were born. In 1960 the family moved to Los Altos, California. Beginning in 1965, the family spent their summers at their Peacham home. Dorothy and Richard retired to Peacham in 1995 and continued restoration of their 1791 farmhouse. Dorothy enjoyed Interior Design, ran an Antique Shop, and painted in oils and watercolors. Dorothy collected dolls and dollhouses. She liked swimming, ice skating, and served as a lifeguard at the St. Johnsbury public pool. Early she was a member of North Congregational Church, then an active member of the Peninsula Bible Church in California where she studied and led several women's Bible studies, and in retirement she was active in the East Peacham Baptist Church. For 29 years, she and Richard made accurate scale models of buildings and homes in Peacham as gifts. She is survived by her husband of 66 years: Richard Dean Hovey; her daughter: Valerie Chimienti and husband, David, of Peacham, VT; her son: Dean Hovey and wife, Marie Elizabeth of Los Altos, CA; a sister: Caroline Willey of East Concord, VT; 4 grandchildren: Lindsey Happ and husband, Jason, of Germantown, MD, Michael Powers and wife, Emma, of Seattle, WA, Sheena Mawson and husband, Sven, of Woodside, CA, and Amber Heffernan and husband, Gary, of NY, NY; 8 great-grandchildren: Lilian and Ezra Happ, Jack and Davis Powers, and Serevina, Samuel, Soren and a baby girl due in March 2018; 8 nieces and nephews: Diane Price, David Willey, Deborah Arter, Donna Winchester, Andrea Neil, Gail LeFebvre and husband, Jerry, Margo Rowen, Mark Rowen and wife, Michaelanne. A celebration of life will be held at the Peacham farm in mid May with burial at Peacham Corner Cemetery.
