Mrs. Jacqueline Isabelle of Newport passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning, Nov. 23, 2014, at the age of 92. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on Aug. 2, 1922, the daughter of Alcide and Laura (Brunelle) Toussaint. Her husband J. Leo Isabelle passed away Jan. 3, 2005. The Isabelles were longtime residents of Newport and former residents of St. Johnsbury. Jacqueline grew up in St. Johnsbury and graduated from Mount St. Joseph's Academy. She worked at WT Grant's in St. Johnsbury and later for the Vermont State Employment Agency where she met the love of her life, Leo, after he returned from active duty in the Marine Corps. Jacqueline was a stay at home Mom who loved and nurtured her children and grandchildren. She was truly a role model for her family with her examples of her faith in the Lord and love of her family. She was a lifetime member of the Daughter's of Isabella. She was predeceased by a daughter Celeste in 1976, a sister Gloria Carlton, and two brothers, Leo and Normand Toussaint. She is survived by nine children: Christine Wolf and husband Phillip of Brownington, Claudette Schoolcraft and husband Gary of Peacham, Marc Isabelle and wife Deborah of Hamilton, N.J., Bernard Isabelle and wife Crystal of Underhill, Donald Isabelle of Pittsford, Brenda Isabelle of Derby, Brian Isabelle and wife Allyson of Loveland, Colo., Richard Isabelle and wife Constance of Derby, Suzanne Schmitz and husband James of Beavercreek, Ohio; 29 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; Leo's three brothers and one sister all of Barre: Hector Isabelle and wife Marilyn, Ellis Isabelle and wife Jacqueline, Romeo Isabelle and wife Yvonne, and Claire Carmell; several nieces and nephews. Jackie was able to remain in her home with the help of her loving caregivers over the last several years. They became her extended family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Newport this Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in May at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in St. Johnsbury. Visiting hours will be held at the Curtis-Britch- Converse-Rushford Funeral Home on Darling Hill Road Friday, 1-3 p.m. Contributions in memory of Jacqueline can be made to the Area Agency of Aging, 481 Summer St., Ste 101, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.
