Marjorie D. Canning passed away unexpectedly at home in Waterford on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the age of 90. Marge was born on the family farm in Waterford on Dec. 31, 1923, the daughter of Benjamin and Helen (Morton) Daniels. She married Lawrence Canning on Aug. 27, 1948. They lived for many years in Plainville, Connecticut where they raised their three children. Summer vacations were spent in Vermont camping at Miles Pond. Larry passed away March 7, 1991. She was also predeceased by a sister Lucille Farr in 2002 and brother Glen Daniels many years ago. Upon retirement Marge and Larry returned to Waterford and built their beloved home on Daniels Farm Road in Waterford. Marge was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Summer Sunday picnics on the pond on Slate Ledge Road. were wonderful family events that grandchildren will always treasure. She adored dancing all her life spending many a night 'boogying on down'! She is survived by son Raymond and wife Kate of Bennington, son David of Waterford, daughter Gail Calkins of Danville; five grandchildren: Abba, Leigh, Abby, Bradley and Ashley; three great-grandchildren: Natalie, Asa and Ione; nieces and nephews; a sister Vivian Davis of Waterford; and many loving friends. Marge would have liked a party. So, friends and family are invited to an open house at Marge's home, 795 Daniels Farm Road, this Saturday, March 15, from 1-4 p.m. Memorial contributions could be made out and sent to 'Norris Cotton Cancer Center North', 1080 Hospital Dr., St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.
