Russell F. Powers went home to be with the Lord, with his family
at his side on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at the age of 84. Born in
Waterford June 20, 1924, he is the son of the late Glenn G. and
Eva (Page) Powers. Russell attended the Waterford Woods
School, Littleton High School, and St. Johnsbury Trade School
where he graduated with the class of 1943, and the Providence
Bible Institute 1947-1948. He served in the U.S. Army, PFC for 18
months during WWII. He married Patricia E. Wallace on June 6, 1947.
Russell worked for Garelick Bros. Farms in Franklin, Mass., 1949-1956,
as a route salesman. In 1956 he returned to Vermont
to farm with his brother Willard for about 30 years, he continued
farming with sons Kevin and Ron. Kevin took over things in 1986
and Russell retired in the early 1990s. Russell was a member of
Union Baptist Church for 53 years, served as a Deacon for many
years and was a life-long Gideon member. He served as a Lister
for many years for the Town of Waterford. He thoroughly enjoyed
making maple syrup. He won several blue ribbons at the
Caledonia County Fair. He also enjoyed roadside marketing of the
syrup and meeting people. Russell is survived by his loving wife,
Patricia of Waterford; children, Ronald Powers and wife Sherrill,
Kevin Powers and wife Debbie, Judith Daniels and husband
Stephen, Sandra Grant and husband Kenneth, and Sharon
Bohlen and husband Nick; a daughter-in-law, Jane Powers Lyon;
and 21 grandchildren. He was predeceased by an infant
daughter, Lois Eileen Powers; son, Daniel G. Powers; and two
grandchildren, Kristen Grant, and Matthew Grant. Visiting hours
will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pearsons Funeral Home
70 Church St., Lyndonville. A funeral service will be held on
Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m., in the Union Baptist Church with
Pastor Paul Powers, officiant. Interment will follow at the
Riverside Cemetery in Waterford. Memorial contributions may be
