Wayne Perkins , 82, formerly of St. Johnsbury, passed away with his family by his side, at the Genesis Center in Lebanon, N.H., Monday, June 7, 2010. He was born in St. Johnsbury on Sept. 16, 1927, one of four sons born to John and Elizabeth (Scott) Perkins. Wayne worked for the St. Johnsbury School district. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. The Perkins resided on the corner of Summer and Mt. Pleasant streets in St. Johnsbury where he loved to sit on the porch and visit with the neighbors. Wayne's loves were his family, his much-beloved hunting camp in North Concord, woodworking, going to camp with the kids, working for the St. Johnsbury Fire Department, and going to work every day at the St. Johnsbury School district. He was a 50-plus year member of Grace United Methodist Church, lifelong member of the Caledonia Field and Stream Club, and was proud to have been a member of the Masons' Passumpsic Lodge 27. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Bernard, Emerson and Everett and one son, Mark Glendon. Wayne is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenda (Burr) Perkins; three children, Katherine Belding and husband Warren of Lebanon N.H., John Perkins and wife Trina of White River Junction, Craig Perkins and wife Kathy of Chepachet, R.I.; six grandchildren, Jeremy Perkins of White River Junction, Jennifer McGonigal now of California, Heather Shannon of Plant City, Fla., Christopher Belding of Hudson, N.H., Robert Belding of Vernon, Conn., Gabriel Perkins of Chepachet, R.I.; four great-grandchildren, Heavyn and Neese Shannon, Joss Perkins and Aine McGonigal; a sister-in-law, Ruth Perkins of Southbridge, Mass.; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in St. Johnsbury Thursday, June 10 at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Marshall officiating. Burial will be at the Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke.
