Bruce W. Hoyt, 79, of Safety Harbor, Fla., passed away peacefully in his home on Jan. 23, 2016. Bruce was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt. on March 7, 1936 to Herman and Elsie (Darling) Hoyt. He graduated from Tufts University and served in the US Navy from 1958-1961. Later, he received his Masters of Science in Physics from the University of Wisconsin. Bruce was a life-long teacher. He taught at St. Johnsbury Academy (1964-1980), and numerous other locations to include Frankfurt, Germany while following his Army wife. Later in life he wrote and published "North of Brattleboro," a collection of short stories and poetry about life, love and Vermont. He was a husband, dad, son, teacher, colleague, and friend; he excelled at all of life's roles. He enjoyed people and learning. He and his wife, Pamela, retired to Safety Harbor in 2013. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie (Rider) Hoyt. He is survived by his current wife of 32 years, Pamela (Reganall) Hoyt; his brother, Herman; his six children, Stewart, Delsie, Avis, Hubbard, Benjamin and Thomas; and by two granddaughters, Opal and Virginia. A memorial service in St. Petersburg, Fla. is planned for Friday Feb. 12, 2016, at 2:15 p.m. at Bay Pines National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Johnsbury Academy and/or Suncoast Hospice.
