Robert David Gagner, 78, of South Windsor, Conn., passed away June 2, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born Jan. 23, 1937 in St. Johnsbury, Vt., he was a son of the late Norman and Elosia (Henderson) Gagner. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served his country from 1955 through 1959. Bob was married to the love of his life Rita (Girard) Gagner for 51 years and raised three children. He is survived by his daughter Michelle Gagner and Gary Gilbert of Guilford, Conn., his daughter Dianne Breen and her husband Scott and their four children Megan, Sarah, Caroline and Joseph, residing in N.Y.; his son Norman and his wife Jennifer and their two sons Brett and Zachary McDaniel, residing in Va. Bob was predeceased by his brothers Laurent and Ronald and survived by his brother Andre "Pete" Gagner of Terryville. He worked as a highly skilled machinist for 43 years, with the last 27 as a tool maker at Windsor Manufacturing. Bob was a devoted husband, father and friend who loved gardening, golfing and all sports but his most precious time was spent with his family and his grandchildren whom he treasured. He was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Vernon, Conn., for 20 years, serving as a lector at daily Mass, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Men's Group and many other parish activities. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 7, from 1-4 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, Vernon, Conn. 06066. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 8, beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated at 11 a.m., from St. Joseph Church, 33 West Street, Rockville, Conn. 06066. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Home Hospice Staff for their exceptional care and kindness. Bob's final three weeks were spent in comfort surrounded by his adoring family with Norman's gourmet meals and a lot of laughter. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Robert's name to the St. Joseph Church, 33 West Street, Rockville, Ct. 06066, or Hartford Healthcare At Home Hospice.
