Burlington - Alfred 'Fred' J. Brunelle, a devoted husband, dad, papa and brother, age 69, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT surrounded by his family. Fred was born on March 19, 1949 in St. Johnsbury, VT to Francis and Helen (Stanley) Brunelle and was the youngest of four children. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1967 and from the University of Vermont in 1971. Shortly after graduating from UVM, on May 29, he married the love of his life, Louise (Mansfield) Brunelle. At the start of his career, Fred worked at Burrough's in Burlington, VT as a sales representative for 6 years before he and Louise moved to North Walpole, NH, where he worked at Frank W. Whitcomb Construction Company as a controller for 15 years before moving his family back to Vermont. He continued his career as a customer support representative for 18 years at Systems & Software in Williston, VT, where he also resided, and was deeply admired by his customers and colleagues. He retired in September 2012 and enjoyed his time collecting coins, reading, traveling with his wife and family, hunting excursions to Anticosti Island with his son and brother and annual camping trips with his granddaughter. Fred received a liver transplant in 1996 which added many years to his life and what he always considered 'bonus time'. Although he continued to have additional health complications, most of which occurred in recent years, he fought to be present every day. He will forever and always be seen as a courageous hero and a man of fortitude in the eyes of his beloved family. Fred's family will miss his love, tender touch, infectious smile, big bear hugs, practical jokes and humor the most as they continue on their life journeys without him. Fred is predeceased by his parents and his oldest sister, Frances Trotier, but will forever be remembered by his wife Louise, and their precious children Scott and Susan, his adored granddaugter Olivia, his brother William Brunelle and his wife Kathleen of St. Albans, VT, his sister Patricia Veilleux and her husband Normand of St. Johnsbury, VT, his mother-in-law Theresa Mansfield of Winooski, VT and his brother-in-law David Mansfield and his wife Aline of Milton, VT. Fred will also be remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends. Fred's family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful and dedicated nurses, doctors and social workers on McClure 4 MICU of the UVM Medical Center and the staff at the dialysis clinic on Joy Drive in South Burlington, VT, who cared for him every week. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, June 13 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home located at 9 Pleasant Street in Essex Junction, VT. A Catholic Service will be celebrated in memory of Fred on Thursday, June 14 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church located at 3 Saint Peter Street in Winooski, VT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fred's name to St. Johnsbury Academy, 1000 Main Street, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819 or to the Transplant Donor Network, c/o Jim Carter, 10 Gar Place, Underhill, VT 05489
