David C. Buck of St. Johnsbury died suddenly at home Friday, March 22, 2013, at the age of 63. He was born in St. Johnsbury on May 12, 1949, one of seven children born to Chester and Margaret (Lamontagne) Buck. He attended St. Johnsbury Trade School. On Sept. 1, 1973, he married Louise Somers of Barnet. Since 1987 David operated his own business called 4 Buck Enterprises. He served in the Vermont National Guard for 22 years and left with the rank of Staff Sergeant. There are a lot of good memories traveling back and forth to Camp Drum. David was a former member of the Moose Lodge and a former president of the St. Johnsbury Lions Club. His favorite pastime was camping at Willson's field in Danville and dining out with family and friends. Papa enjoyed attending all the grandchildren's sporting events especially basketball. He looked forward to Buck family reunion every year. He is survived by his wife Louise; two children: Becky Buck of St. Johnsbury, Chester 'Chet' Buck and wife Crystal of St. Johnsbury Center; five grandchildren who meant the world to him: Becky's two children, Michael Buck and Sierra DeWolfe, and Chet and Crystal's three children, Miranda, Britani and Kelsi; a great-granddaughter, Kallie; two brothers: James Buck and wife Linda Ward of Sutton, Thomas Buck and wife Virginia of Lyndonville; one sister, Debra Chase and husband Mark of Littleton, N.H.; Louise's brothers and sisters: Gilman Somers, Loretta Clark, Charlie Somers, Denise Day, Larry Somers, and Mike Hutchinson; nieces and nephews; his close friends Claire and Ron Hooker and Henry Olcott. His shepherd buddy Max was always at his side. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Richard Buck in 1999; two sisters, Beatrice Vilikis in 2008 and DayneRae Buck in 2009; brother-in-law, Robert Somers in 1999, and special friend Barb Olcott in 2010. Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in St. Johnsbury this Wednesday, March 27, at 3 p.m. at the North Congregational Church on Main Street. The pastor, the Rev. Jay Sprout, will officiate. Cremation will follow the service; his cremains will be buried with military honors this spring at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. David's father helped operate the skating rink on Portland Street whom some refer to as the "Chester Buck Memorial Field." David and Louise kept the tradition by continuing to later help with the rink. Memorial contributions, marked in David's memory and made payable to 'Town of St. Johnsbury,' could be sent to St. Johnsbury Town Clerk (attention Patti Wakeham), 51 Depot Square, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.
