David V. Lavigne , 63, formerly of St. Johnsbury, unexpectedly passed away at his home in Sharpsburg, Ga., on May 5, 2007. Born in Newport, Vt., Dave was the son of Valmore and Doris (Page) Lavigne. He spent his first years in Newport before moving to St. Johnsbury as an elementary school boy. Dave was a graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy and was selected as a member of the 1962 Vermont Shrine Football Team. Following high school graduation, he attended the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., after which he served honorably in the Vermont Air National Guard. He married his high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Betty (Kimball) Lavigne of Lower Waterford, Vt., to whom he was married for 41 years. He was employed by St. Johnsbury Trucking Company for 29 years, beginning as a second-shift computer programmer and eventually, through a series of promotions, worked his way up to director of data center operations. After St. Johnsbury Trucking ceased operations, he accepted a position as director of client services for Transettlements Network Services in Atlanta. As a long-time resident of St. Johnsbury, Dave served his community as trustee of the local chamber of commerce, district annual fund-raising appeal chairman for Boy Scout Troop 7, treasurer of St. Johnsbury Baseball and head coach of the Giants Little League baseball team. Never one to embrace formal titles, Dave will be best remembered for his playful wink, good-natured ribbing, hearty laugh and gift for making those around him feel special and important. He was a devoted, loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Betty; son Michael and daughter-in-law Elyse Lavigne of Asbury, N.J.; daughter Janet and son-in-law Chris Lussier of Essex, Vt.; brothers Brian and his wife Jane Lavigne of Burlington, Vt., and Douglas and his wife Dianne Lavigne of St. Johnsbury; sister Mary and her husband Kerry Sleeper of Jericho, Vt.; four grandchildren, Cailyn, Colin, Aidan and Zackery; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Lower Waterford, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, with a reception to follow at the Hilltopper Café on Main Street in St. Johnsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Angels' House, P.O. Box 657, Newnan, GA 30264.
